Canniesburn 50 update - 1st august 2017

Time is marching on & the meeting drawing ever closer. Here are a few late words of encouragement to make sure everyone gets properly sorted for the meeting!

Accommodation
We have a block allocation of rooms at the Blythswood Square Hotel, which will be released on general sale on 11 th August – if you haven’t booked your room by then you may miss out. Please contact the hotel direct to make sure you have a reservation for the meeting.

Scientific Program
Abstract submission is now closed, and the final program is being prepared. It is hoped this will be published on the website within the next two weeks. All authors who have submitted papers will be receiving an email in the next few days with the decision of the scientific committee.

Social Functions
The social functions, particularly the Dinner on Saturday Evening are filling up, with not many places left. If you haven’t booked in for these please do so as soon as possible. If you have any specific dietary requirements please let Dorothy know as soon as possible.

Golf
Places are limited, and again not many left. Please contact Dorothy as soon as possible if you wish to take up the opportunity of golfing on the Sunday.

In Summary – everything is taking shape and the meeting promises to be a great opportunity to revisit all the things that we remember about Canniesburn!

Canniesburn 50 update - 4th July 2017

We are delighted at the response of past and present colleagues, who will join us in September.

We are sure there are some who have yet to register, and in light of the summer holiday season, the early bird registration has been extended to the end of July, to make sure as many people can benefit from the reduced rates.

The deadline for abstracts is also extended to the 31 st July, and we invite anyone to submit to secretary@canniesburn.org or Dorothy.stobie@ggc.scot.nhs.uk

Reserved accommodation at the Blythswood Hotel, is available until 11 th August 2017

Please book accommodation directly with Blythswood Hotel if required, quoting Canniesburn Reunion meeting.

Canniesburn 50 update - 7th apr 2017

Only five months to go to the meeting.  Please do visit the website http://canniesburn.org/canniesburn-50th-anniversary to register for the meeting as soon as you can.  There is also a link there to the Blythswood Hotel for accommodation for those wishing to stay for the duration of the meeting.

Abstracts

The call for abstracts is now made.  Abstracts of 250 words maximum are requested.  Please send your abstract to secretary@canniesburn.org by midnight on 15th June.  We will endeavour to contact all who submit an abstract within two weeks to confirm whether papers have been accepted.

In addition to the scientific element, the meeting is about celebrating our unit and staff who have been involved with us over the past 50 years.  I am sure there are many photographs out there with memories attached.  We would like to collate some of these as a slideshow to run during some of the breaks in the meeting.  If you wish to add a caption, suitable for projection, please do – we can run this as a PowerPoint show, with space for a few words alongside pictures.  If you have suitable images, please send digital copies to secretary@canniesburn.org,  along with any accompanying text.

For any who are interested in the prospect of golf at Troon, please let us know as soon as possible.  This will be on the Sunday afternoon.  As you can imagine there is immense pressure on slots at the course (I’m sure they have a proper name, but I’m not a golfer!) so do, as they say, book early to avoid disappointment.

So far we have the Chief Medical Officer for Scotland opening the meeting, and Professor Sir Ken Calman speaking at the Dinner.  Alongside the keynote speakers we have secured, this promises to be a great meeting – please book in and secure your place as soon as you can.

Canniesburn 50th update

Welcome to the first update on progress with “Canniesburn 50”, arranged for 22nd to 24th September 2017.  We are looking forward to welcoming back to Glasgow everyone who has had some affiliation, however brief, with our Unit.

The scientific meeting will be held in The Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow.  I’m sure many of you will remember the flap course dinners & various versions and discussion of the portraits hanging around the hall.  The lecture theatre at The College is well appointed, with all facilities including an induction loop for those of us admitting to not getting younger.

Accommodation is available at Blythswood Square Hotel, conveniently just across the Square from the back of The College.  If you are making a reservation, please tell them you are booking in association with the “Canniesburn 50” meeting in order to access the special package we have negotiating.  Contact details for the hotel are:

Blythswood Square, 11 Blythswood Square, Glasgow. G2 4AD

Tel:  +44 (0) 141 248 8888 Fax: +44 (0) 141 221 3132 www.townhousecompany.com.

We already have the first expressions of interest noted.  It would be really helpful for us in planning, if you could visit the Canniesburn website www.canniesburn.org and follow the link to the “Canniesburn 50” page, where you can register your interest in attending (not binding, of course), or sign up for the meeting.  If you already have, please encourage anyone else you are in touch with to do the same.

We plan to have an opportunity for golfers to get the meeting underway on the Friday morning with a round at one of our special local courses.  The scientific meeting will then run Friday lunchtime to Saturday evening.  There will be a reception at the Blythswood Hotel on Friday evening so everyone can catch up, and a dinner on the Saturday evening, at The Grand Central Hotel.  On Sunday morning, we plan to be a little self-indulgent with a session on the history of Canniesburn, and an opportunity for anyone who wishes to share any specific Canniesburn memories.with everyone.

Details of the scientific sessions and a call for abstracts will follow shortly, please keep an eye on the twitter feed & the web page for more updates.

Please either register interest so we can keep you updated personally, or ideally, sign up for the meeting.
